The whole point of having a vacation is to escape the day-to-day grind and relax your mind, body, and soul. However, to relax on your vacation does not always mean that you must lie on the beach, sleep in everyday, or party it up all night long.
Not sure what I mean? Here are 10 creative yet fulfilling ways to help you get that relaxation fix you are looking for!
1. Give yourself time to eat
And I mean to really take the time! I find a good satisfying meal makes a whole lot of difference in my mood and energy level afterwards. Not only is it good for your health to eat stress-free, it’s also super yummy-in-your-belly if you throughly enjoy your food.
2. Put your phone on Do Not Disturb
Available on most phones, you can turn on DND mode which blocks incoming calls and texts. This functionality will not remove outgoing calls or texts, and you still get to have that wifi and data you need for the GPS or occasional information look up.
3. Go café hopping
There’s something about cafés that makes me feel at ease, maybe it’s the aroma or the ambience of the place. And if you are feeling adventurous, order something you’ve never heard of or tried before! Not only do you get to relax you also get to try something new.
4. Find a seat
Sometimes, the only thing you need is to just sit down. Wherever you are, whether you have done a lot of walking or been driving all day… take a break and sit down, lie back, and just breathe. We all need that timeout sometimes, and it’s just as important to let our brain shut off for a few short minutes of rest.
5. Do some stargazing
On a clear day, there is nothing more magical than taking in the night sky and watching the stars blinking back at us from millions of light years away. If you are in the city and cannot really see stars, try to travel a bit further out of town to see them.
If your hotel has a gym or there’s a nice running trail nearby, I would highly recommend getting some workout done – yes, even on vacation! By exercising, you are reducing your body’s stress hormone levels and relaxing the tension in your muscles. Not only will it elevate your mood significantly afterwards, it also distracts you from everyday worries and allow your mind the freedom to think creatively.
7. Give sometime to yourself
Don’t be afraid to explore places and new things on your own. Take a break from your family or your travel companions and do something by yourself. Always remember safety first and have your phone with you for emergencies.
8. Take a stroll
Little do we realize that sometimes travelling with a schedule on hand can be so stressful. If you have got a day or two of freetime where you didn’t specifically plan anything, mark down some points of interest on a local map, and get out there. Remember, no time constraints and explore at your own pace.
9. Explore the local culture
Whether it be participating in a public celebration, watching a live performance, or even taking a cooking class, there are endless possibilities in the type of things you can do to learn something new about the culture of your destination. Research ahead of time on things you can participate in.
10. Plan your next vacation
The end of a vacation can be a daunting and emotional thought. Cheer yourself up with ideas of potential vacations to come! Need some inspiration? Here are a few ideas.
